Beth Robertson, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor #15562

I enjoy working with couples and providing a safe place for two people to work through marital struggles. I also work heavily with women and women’s issues. I have a variety of experience working with different stages of life transitions like first-time parents, empty nest syndrome and the psychological effects of growing older.

What is your main goal when working with a client?

My goal is to create a safe place for the client to explore their life – what’s working, what isn’t, fears, pain, past hurts and trauma. I aim to help them find their authentic selves and live in the freedom that it provides.

What is your approach and what methods do you employ?

My approach is Person-Centered, Emotion-focused. I may also recommend books, movies or music to aid the therapeutic process. I have completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy as well as attendance at conferences for trauma.

What age groups do you most often work with?

Young adults through seniors. I have worked with clients as young as 18.

Are you passive or active in the session, what can a client typically expect sessions to be like while working with you?

I provide plenty of space for a client to talk while actively engaging with the client’s story. I believe my approach meets people where they are. Regardless of passive or active, my clients can count on me to walk beside them on their journey and to guide them on the road to self-discovery.

What is your background and what are your credentials?

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. From 2011-2014 I was a therapist at First Orlando Counseling Center as a Student Intern and later as a counselor. I joined Gilstrap and Associates in 2014 with the goal of completing requirements for state licensure. I also have 35 years of administrative experience, primarily with medical centers. I will sometimes use my previous employment to help people struggling with career change and navigating the business world.

What is the reason you decided to get into counseling?

As one of the walking wounded, I have been blessed with amazing therapists who have walked with me in the dark as I muddled through my angst and searched for light—freedom from shame, betrayal, grief and fear. I long to offer the compassion and presence that I have been given. My husband and I have wrestled with the mystery of marriage alongside guides who helped us connect and deepen our love when we thought it had ended, teaching us that “in a relationship, we are wounded and in a relationship, we are healed.”
