What is your main goal when working with a client?
I desire to join my clients on their journey by entering into their world and helping them hold their pain while we work together on moving towards health and wholeness.
What is your approach and what methods do you employ?
Most importantly, in my opinion, is a trusting and supportive counselor/client relationship. I believe healthy progress is impossible without a strong therapeutic connection. And as we are all unique, I do not see how one particular method of therapy can treat all clients in all situations so I take an integrative approach to counseling. That just means I bring together different elements of specific therapies based upon the client’s unique needs and personal circumstances.
What age groups do you most often work with?
I have found I enjoy working with all ages.
Are you passive or active in the session, what can a client typically expect sessions to be like while working with you?
My hope is for my clients to experience me as a safe, compassionate, trustworthy person who will walk beside them on their journey, helping them process and grow to the degree they desire. Our sessions will be tailored to what the client needs on that particular day.
What is your background and what are your credentials?
My relationship with God is most important to me and has led me on an interesting, adventurous journey into counseling. For two years I had the privilege of helping facilitate seminars around the U.S. with a psychologist, author, and speaker, Dr. Henry Cloud, whose numerous books have helped tremendously in my own personal growth and counseling knowledge. I am currently a registered mental health counselor intern.
What is the reason you decided to get into counseling?
God has orchestrated several things to move me towards counseling during my current stage of mid-life. After spending a year in Moscow on a mission trip, I returned to the States to work in ministry. This work in ministry for 20 years deepened my understanding that all of us are broken and hurting in some way. As I continue to experience healing from my own brokenness through counseling, my desire has greatly increased to help others heal, as well.
